Wearable Vessels

Places, peoples, sanctuaries, and the shared history of Aetherkin.

Wearable Vessels of Aetherkin
Wearable Vessels of Aetherkin

When a bonded Arcana Beast is not manifested in the world, they may rest as condensed aether inside a Wearable Vessel worn by their Beast Binder โ€” a ring, bangle, crown, pendant, brooch, or similar form.

A Vessel is never a cage. Two truths must both be true

  • โ€ข The Beast Binder chooses which vessel form they will wear
  • โ€ข The Arcana Beast accepts that form as a safe place to rest

If a Beast refuses a form, the Binder must choose another โ€” mutual acceptance is part of the Bond. Forcing a vessel against a Beast's Boundary is a serious violation and should strain or break trust at the table.

Manifest & Call Back

Manifest The Arcana Beast steps out of the Vessel into the scene (often at Stage 1)
Call Back The Beast returns to rest inside the Vessel, often used to Devolve safely or leave a fight with Boost

Some pairs keep the Beast manifested most of the day; others live Vessel-first in crowded towns. Both are valid if the Bond holds.

Common Forms

Catalog shapes the table can pick from โ€” plus any homebrew form both partners accept. Crowns and gauntlets feel proud or martial; hairpins and earrings feel intimate; amulets and talismans feel protective. Let preference tell character.

Ring

A finger band that hums faintly when the Bond is steady. Compact and discreet โ€” favoured by Binders who travel light.

Signet Ring

A flat-faced ring stamped with a personal mark. Feels official; some Beasts like the weight of being โ€œclaimedโ€ only if they chose it.

Thumb Ring

A thicker band worn on the thumb. Grounded and solid โ€” often preferred by Brawl-leaning partners.

Bangle

A wrist cuff with room for etched Bond marks. Easy to touch when calling a partner back into rest.

Bracelet

A linked chain or cord bracelet. Softer silhouette than a bangle; easy to wear every day.

Charm Bracelet

A bracelet hung with small keepsakes. Playful Beasts often ask to add a new charm after each adventure.

Wristband

A woven or leather band. Casual and tough; common among field Binders and athletes.

Armlet

A band worn on the upper arm. Visible and proud without crowning the head.

Anklet

A band worn at the ankle. Favoured by restless Binders and Beasts who prefer ground-close aether.

Toe Ring

A tiny ring for a toe. Quiet intimacy; some Beasts find it amusing, others refuse anything so โ€œsilly.โ€

Crown

A circlet or small crown worn on the head. Dramatic and ceremonial; some Beasts refuse anything that feels like a leash.

Tiara

A lighter brow piece than a full crown. Elegant without demanding a throne.

Circlet

A light brow band โ€” quieter than a Crown, still proud. Many Spirit-leaning Beasts prefer this shape.

Headband

A practical fabric or metal band across the forehead. Keeps hair back and aether close.

Hairpin

An ornamental pin worn in hair or a braid. Subtle; some Beasts like resting close to their Binderโ€™s scent and warmth.

Hair Comb

A decorative comb slid into a bun or braid. Old-fashioned charm; steady containment.

Hair Cord

A braided ribbon or cord tying hair back. Soft, flexible, and easy to remake if damaged.

Earring

A single stud or hoop. Minimal silhouette; requires trust โ€” the Beast rests near the Binderโ€™s voice.

Ear Cuff

A clip that hugs the ear without a piercing. Good for Binders who dislike holes but want closeness.

Pendant

A pendant on a chain or cord over the heart. Warm to the touch while the Beast rests inside.

Locket

A hinged pendant that opens. Intimate; some pairs keep a scrap of memory or colour inside.

Necklace

A longer chain resting against the chest. Roomier aether pocket than a slim pendant.

Choker

A close band at the throat. Bold look; only works when both partners trust the closeness.

Brooch

A clasp pinned to a cloak, scarf, or school blazer. Popular for everyday wear and quick Manifest.

Cape Pin

A heavy cloak fastener at the shoulder. Traveller energy; weatherproof symbolism.

Shoulder Clasp

A decorative plate or knot at the shoulder strap. Martial without being a gauntlet.

Amulet

A sealed charm often hung at the belt or satchel. Protective symbolism; steady aether containment.

Talisman

A carved token of wood, bone, or crystal. Feels older than towns; favoured by sanctuary keepers.

Badge

A pin or crest worn on a lapel or bag. Public-facing; some Beasts enjoy being โ€œon display.โ€

Belt Buckle

A central buckle or plate on a belt. Sturdy containment; common among field Binders and wardens.

Waist Cord

A sash or knotted cord at the waist. Soft structure; easy to retie after a hard fight.

Sash Pin

A decorative pin securing a sash or wrap. Ceremonial without a full crown.

Gauntlet

A reinforced glove or bracer plate. Martial aesthetic; some Beasts only accept vessels that feel like shared armour.

Bracer

A forearm guard plate. Lighter than a gauntlet; good for Binders who still want armour-feel.

Finger Guard

A small metal or leather sheath for one finger. Precise and personal โ€” almost like a second ring.

Torc

An open-neck metal collar from older traditions. Heavy presence; Beasts either adore it or refuse it outright.

Pocket Watch

A hinged watch kept in a pocket or on a short chain. Tick of shared time; clever Beasts love the ritual of opening it.

Key Charm

A key-shaped charm on a ring or cord. Symbol of trust and unlocked doors โ€” never of cages.

Satchel Clasp

The main fastener on a bag or satchel. Practical; the Beast rides along with every packed day.

Boot Buckle

A buckle or plate on a boot. Road-worn and stubborn; favoured by wanderers and Earth-leaning partners.

These pairings are flavour prompts, not rules. Any Element may accept any form if the Bond agrees.

For the Table

  • โ€ข Record accepted vessel forms on the Arcana Beast sheet
  • โ€ข Record the active vessel on the Partner Duo sheet
  • โ€ข Damaged vessels can be repaired with Binding Thread or downtime Craft
  • โ€ข A lost vessel is a story crisis, not a soft lock โ€” the Bond remains, but Manifest may be harder until a new accepted form is found
