Arcana Beast is a relationship-driven game about kids (Beast Binders) and their bonded magical creatures (Arcana Beasts). The existence of Arcana Beasts is defined by the intersection of three fundamental forces: Aether, Environment, and Emotion โ a pattern first set in motion by Arcanella, the Creator.
The Triad of Creation
Raw Aether โ A mysterious, invisible energy flowing through subterranean veins and atmospheric currents. On its own, it is formless and volatile.
The Environment (Template) โ When raw Aether settles in a habitat, the environment shapes a baseline physical template โ determining Classification (e.g. Mineral underground, Flora in rich soil) and primary Element (e.g. Aqua, Flame, Stone).
The Emotion (Catalyst) โ Raw Aether is sensitive to psychic and emotional currents. Fear, courage, playfulness, or calm crystallize the template into a living entity with a distinct Nature (personality and passive feat).
Formation Phases
The Wild vs. The Bonded:
Wild Baseline (Stages 0โ1) โ In the wild, Arcana Beasts lack a focused emotional conduit. They conserve energy to avoid dissolving back into raw Aether, existing in slumbering Stage 0 (Slumbering Rest) or simple Stage 1. They cannot evolve further alone. Stage 0 creatures have no Special Attacks.
Bonded Baseline (Stage 1 โ Stabilized Companion) โ When an Arcana Beast forms a psychic and emotional connection with a human Beast Binder, the human's stable life-force acts as an anchor. The Arcana Beast's baseline permanently stabilizes at Stage 1.
The Emotional Peak (Stages 2โ4) โ Supported by the Bond, an Arcana Beast can surge into towering elemental forms when an emotional trigger is met or "when the need is great." When combat resolves, they devolve safely back to Stage 1.
